We’re back…but a little bit different
After such a challenging year, we’re so pleased to announce that Fred’s Walk the Bay for Parkinson’s is happening again this April. However, unlike previous years, we won’t have a single event day where we’re all gathering. Rather, we’re encouraging as many people who can to register and walk on their own or in small groups, any time during April or early May (ending Sunday May 16th).
The implications of COVID-19 and the fact that so many members of our community are in high-risk health categories have been contributing factors to this decision.
What will this new walk look like?
We’ll still be encouraging walkers to choose their level of walk–2, 4 or 7km–and we’d love you to don your purple clothes and take a selfie of your walking group. This is still about raising funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research, and we’d love it if you could help by spreading the word as much as you can. Why not invite a friend who may not have been able to attend otherwise, and walk with them at a time that suits?
There’ll still be prizes
In previous year’s we’ve given out prizes on the day of the walk, and we’ll be doing that again via our Facebook page. Take a photo of your walk, your group, yourself in your “splash of purple” and post it on our Facebook page. We’ll announce winners on the page at the end of the walk season.
How will I know how far I’ve walked?
There are a couple of ways to do this. Firstly, if you use the Wilkinson’s Point Pavillion as your start point as with our previous walks, you can use these markers as a guide to turn around:
Alternatively, if you want to do your walk somewhere else–there are some lovely walking tracks on the Eastern shore, around Risdon Brook Dam, or perhaps you have a favourite walking place near you–you can use your smartphone to track how many kilometres you’ve walked. If you don’t know how to do this, download an app like this one that can do it for you.
